Decorative Seasonal Flags For All Occasions

By Marissa Velazquez

Decorative seasonal flags continue to grow in popularity as they are a relatively inexpensive way for homeowners to spruce up their various outdoor spaces and express their unique interests. They come in many different shapes and sizes and the themes are almost limitless. They are also readily available at most larger department stores and home centers and can even be purchased online.

Seasonal flags have become an increasingly popular lawn and garden accessory. While they are available in various shapes and sizes, most banners of this type are fairly inexpensive. This is one reason many homeowners like to change them frequently, to go along with the change in seasons or to celebrate a particular holiday or festive occasion.

This seasonal decor can be used indoors. However, it is more common to see them on display outside, often near the front door. The larger types may be attached to poles in the ground or held by brackets mounted directly to the siding. The more versatile smaller versions hang from small stands with sharp stakes that push into the ground.

Fine silk can pieced together to create the desired motif on some of the more expensive varieties. However, less expensive synthetic material, such as polyester, is often used for the more common variety. Screen printing the images in bulk quantity also helps reduce the cost of making each flag, which makes them more affordable for consumers.

Although these popular garden decorations are available in multiple shapes and sizes, they typically fall into either the large or small category. The larger variety are similar in size to a standard country flag, which would be flown from a pole mounted in the ground or inserted into a bracket attached to the side of the house. The smaller type is more versatile as the small metal holders can be placed along a garden path, near a mailbox or almost anywhere else the homeowner chooses.

Another reason these flags are so popular is there is almost no limit to the types of seasonal themes you can find. Of course, all of the major holidays are covered by most manufacturers, but you can also find many themes that have more to do with the elements of nature found in a particular season. For example, colorful wild flowers or honey bees buzzing around a hive are popular themes for summertime, while fall leaves, pumpkins and cornucopias are popular for the autumn.

Another reason this type of flag is so popular is that they are easily accessible. Most large home centers and major department stores have a decent selection in their lawn and garden or seasonal department. However, if you are looking for something more unique, a specialty store may have more to choose from. You may even be able to find a flag with a specific theme related to a hobby or personal interest if you shop online.

Decorative seasonal flags are a fun and inexpensive way to liven up an outdoor space. With so many shapes, sizes and themes available, any homeowner should find at least a few that appeal to them. To find something more unique or personal, try a quick search online.
