Tips For Businesses: Outdoor Security Camera Systems For Increased Safety

By Mark Mahaffey

As a general manager of a pharmacy, you are likely familiar with the risk that your workers face as they oversee the drive-through window. It is not surprising that pharmacies are places that criminals like to steal from. The reason pharmacies are such tempting places to rob is because they house medications that many people are addicted to.

Because these substances are controlled and regulated so strongly, it is relatively hard to get them, so people have to resort to violence and burglary. It would be very easy for a crook to drive up to a pharmacy window, pull out a gun and demand medications.

But by installing video cameras at each window, as well as security surveillance signs, the crooks will be less likely to get away with their crime. In order to save on electricity as well as wear and tear on the cameras, consider installing the type of cameras that are equipped with motion detectors. These cameras will only turn on when motion is detected.

If you are interested in utilizing outdoor security camera systems, but are put off by the expense of installing and maintain a large number of them, consider using a few dummy cameras. Dummy cameras are cameras that are meant to fool people into thinking that they are being watched by a real camera.

If someone thinks they are being videotaped, they may decide it is not worth the risk of being caught. They may leave your pharmacy without ever carrying through with their robbery.

Be sure, however, to put the cameras in places where your customers will be sure to see them. This helps to guarantee that you get the most benefit from the cameras. The idea is to make sure that everyone who drives up to your window will see a camera so they think they are being watched.
