He claimed that “shining a light on an electrode submerged in a conductive solution would create an electric current.†However, even after much research and development subsequent to the discovery, photovoltaic power continued to be very inefficient and solar cells were used mainly for the purposes of measuring light.
Today we see solar cells in a wide variety of places. You may see solar powered cars. There is even a solar powered aircraft that has flown higher than any other aircraft with the exception of the Blackbird. With the cost of solar cells well within everyone's budget, solar power has never looked so tempting.
Recently new technology has given us solar powered lightings. These lightings have proved to be the best solutions for flagpole lightings. Solar panel manufacturers are now playing a key role in the solar power industry.
The U.S. Code states that: "It is the universal custom to display the flag only from sunrise to sunset on buildings and on stationary flagstaffs in the open. However, when a patriotic effect is desired, the flag may be displayed twenty-four hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness."
