The 5 Steps In Doing Mold Remediation

By Kathleen Bennett

A mold is one type of fungus that often grows, forming multicellular filaments or called as hyphae. The result of hyphae is the discoloration and fuzzy appearance of a particular object, especially food. Generally, hyphae is transparent and that is why the mycelium would appear very fine and fluffy white threads on a surface. It causes the biodegration of the natural materials. Most diseases of humans and animals are caused by mold.

Most removal companies have now been offering services to clean up molds. There are two thins that need important consideration when dealing with the molds and these are taking care of it and preventing it. In the city Jackson MI, most of removal companies follow certain processes in mold remediation Jackson MI. So here are five simple steps in doing the remediation quickly.

First, learn about what is moisture. To assess this growth of fungus may not only talk about what is growing on particular surfaces visibly, but also, know what causes them and how to prevent them. So you must need to understand that behind this problem is the problem of water and moisture. You must also know where the moisture is coming from. You may want to hire some representatives to help in determining the source and location of moisture.

Second, document all the problem and create remediation plans. Before starting the remediation, have a documentation through taking photos, videos, or writing. This documentation will be used by the representatives supervisor in developing the plans. Typically, the plans include the start and end of work, who are going to perform the process, testing plans, and decide whether the homeowner needs to be relocated.

Third is calculating contamination extents. A mold does not grow to only one area, but it is capable of growing bigger and bigger, thus, contaminating other areas. The process would impact the mold removal and clean up approach. A remediation goal is clean up molds which are continuously growing and also, avoiding exposure of the homeowners to it.

There are some guidelines which are being developed by some organizations. The guidelines are used widely in construction industries. These are being recommended with 6 levels for the remediation which are based on square footages of mold or if the molds location is in the HVAC system or not.

Fourth, remediate the contamination of molds. In the process, cleaning up will always be involved and also the avoidance of being exposed into it, especially the homeowners. It also involves the prevention of new growth through addressing the source of moisture.

The cleaning up process involves these following steps. Water problems repair, contaminated areas isolation, dusts suppression, materials removal, place materials in a plastic bag, cleaning, cleaning those affected egresses and areas, visibility testing, drying, and then replacing. Having even just a basic understanding on the procedures which surely be very useful.

Fifth is to determine a successful cleaning up. Not being able to see the visible molds does not say that dirt is no longer there. It depends upon a certain company, some of them would conduct an additional testing after the remedying for some verification if molds are removed already.
